At work, my iPad Pro 12.9” is my go-to device for taking notes, surfing websites, and reading and annotating PDFs. However, there are often times when the iPad Pro isn’t up to the task. At these times, using an actual computer solves the problem. What kinds of things am I speaking about?
- Browser extensions: Safari on iPad Pro does not support browser extensions like those available on desktop browsers. This limits the ability to use specific productivity tools, ad blockers, or other extensions that might improve the browsing experience. And more specifically, most plug-ins are built for Chrome, and you cannot install plug-ins on Chrome on iPad OS. This really hinders things I want to be able to do.
- Keyboard shortcuts: Although the iPad Pro can be used with an external keyboard like the Magic Keyboard, some standard keyboard shortcuts don’t work or have different functionality on the iPad Pro. This often hinders using the iPad.
- Form filling and autofill: While the iPad Pro has autofill capabilities, I often have to use a computer to complete forms online as the iPad Pro just doesn’t work.
These are the main issues I have experienced while using the iPad Pro, and they have occurred on numerous occasions.
So while I use the iPad Pro the majority of the time, I could not get by without a MacBook or desktop computer for the times when the iPad Pro just won’t work. Maybe this will change someday, but for now, don’t give up your computer.
